What color is my day today?
An invitation to begin each day with awareness, kindness, and compassion
“The greatest thing in the world is to know how to belong to yourself.”
Michel de Montaigne
One of the greatest lessons life has taught me is that no two days are the same. Just like the weather changes, the seasons come and go, and the moon is never quite the same, we change too. Our emotions, our energy, and our thoughts are constantly moving... and that's okay.
One difficult day doesn't define who you are, just as one joyful day doesn't tell your whole story. We are made of all of it… the easy days and the hard ones, the light and the dark, the moments we feel strong, and the moments we need a little extra care.
Every morning, we prepare for the day ahead. Will it be hot? Should I bring a sweater? Will it rain? But what if, before checking your emails, your calendar, or even the weather outside, you paused for just a moment and asked yourself:
How am I feeling today?
I like to imagine that our minds have traffic lights.
Not to judge us. Not to label us. Simply to guide us.
Some mornings we wake up feeling Green. Other days we're Yellow. And sometimes... we're Red. None of these colors are good or bad. They're simply messages. The more we learn to recognize them, the more kindness, wisdom, and compassion we can offer ourselves.
Green: Keep going
A day that feels light.
Your body has energy.
Your mind feels clear.
Your emotions feel steady.
You feel ready for whatever today brings.
Green doesn't mean life is perfect. It simply means you have what you need to move forward. So enjoy the day. Dream. Create. Explore.
Yellow: Slow down
Something feels different today.
Maybe you're more tired than usual.
Maybe your mind feels busy.
Maybe your patience is shorter.
Maybe your heart feels heavier.
Yellow isn't asking you to stop. It's inviting you to slow down. Maybe today you choose fewer commitments. Maybe you take an extra breath before reacting, or you ask for help. Maybe you simply become a little gentler with yourself.
Yellow says: "Be mindful while moving forward."
Red: Pause
A day when your body and heart are asking for a break.
Maybe you've been carrying too much.
Maybe your emotions feel overwhelming.
Maybe your mind simply needs quiet.
Red isn't failure. Red is wisdom! Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is pause before pushing harder. Trust that another green day will come. Today, your job is simply to care for yourself.
Benefits of knowing your color today
1. It helps you make wiser choices.
When you recognize how you're feeling, you're more likely to respond instead of react.
2. It replaces judgment with compassion.
Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?" you begin asking, "What do I need today?"
That simple question changes everything.
3. It builds trust with yourself.
Every time you honor today's color instead of fighting it, you remind yourself:
"I can trust myself to take good care of me."
And that's where real confidence begins.
Before you begin your day...
Pause for one minute. Close your eyes. Take one slow breath. Then ask yourself:
What color is my day today?
Not to limit yourself.
Not to excuse yourself.
Simply to understand yourself.
Because every color has a purpose and every color deserves compassion and it is part of what makes you beautifully and wonderfully human!
A gentle invitation
To support this daily check-in, I created a free coloring page inspired by this reflection. A simple reminder to pause before the day begins, notice your color, and choose what you need with kindness.
Because the goal isn't to have more green days. The goal is to recognize today's color—and respond with wisdom, compassion, and love, one day at a time.
With love,
Ale
